The meeting held between the customs services of the Russian Federation and Latvia

On April 23, 2008 in Moscow the meeting took place between Andrei Beliyaninov, Head of the Customs Service of the Russian Federation, Leonid Shornikov, Deputy Head of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation and their colleagues from the Central Customs Department of the Internal Revenue Service of Latvia, headed by Andis Drulle, the Department Director. In the course of the meeting the parties discussed the problems, arising during conveyance of goods, at the Russian-Latvian border and possible ways of their solution, the issues pertinent to modernization of access gates, particularly their equipping with inspection and examination complexes, as well as the issues related to the pilot project implementation in respect of exchange of preliminary information between the customs services of the Russian Federation and European Union, and the preliminary information sharing as such.

The meeting between the heads of customs services of the Russian Federation and Latvia was held within the framework of the formal, two-day visit of the delegation of the Latvian customs service. The second-day scenario made provision for visiting the customs station of the Moscow South Customs House of Kashira, in which course the Latvian colleagues would familiarize themselves with the results of operations of the Russian customs authorities as far as implementation of computer-aided and internet- assisted declaring was concerned.

Andrei Beliyaninov stated: “We are destined to maintain friendly relation”, and voiced a hope for further continuation of interaction and cooperation between the customs services of the Russian Federation and Latvia. 

 The cooperation between the customs services of the Russian Federation and Latvia in respect of mutual solution of various problems had always been very effective. The sessions are constantly held both at the national and regional level. In the course of working visits the customs officials of both countries hold co-operative activities, conduct a professional dialogue on solution of problems related to international trade development.
