DRUGS IN INTERNATIONAL MAILS

Cases of synthetic drug smuggling via the international mail started to be more frequent, with China as the country of origin.

On March 12, in the permanent customs control zone in the International Post Exchange area of the Irkutsk mainline sorting center, the customs inspection of the international mail, forwarded from China to Russia to the address of two residents of Irkutsk, was carried out.

According to the information stated in the customs declaration, the parcel contained the following commodities - a boat. During the customs inspection inside the boat, the customs officers discovered almost a kilogram of powdery substance (931 g). The expert examination showed that the material, submitted for analysis, contains narcotic substance, which is included in the list of drugs and psychoactive substances and their precursors, the turnover of which is prohibited in the Russian Federation.

During the investigation, officers found out the address of the rented apartment, where the illegal laboratory for synthetic drugs production was located. The criminal case under part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code (drug trafficking) was initiated. Both people involved in this criminal case are currently in custody.

On March 4, one of the post offices of Balakovo, Saratov region, received a parcel from China. When being handed to a citizen of Russia, the parcel was withdrawn by the officers of the Saratov Customs. The parcel contained some synthetic drug, the total weight of which was 18.9 gr.; in accordance with the Legislation, it is considered to be a big amount. Basing on this fact, the criminal case under part 3 of Article 229.1 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code was initiated.

Towards the end of February, Omsk customs officers initiated two criminal cases against one local resident, who received two parcels from China, forwarded to his address and concealing drugs of the synthetic origin. In the covering documents, it was indicated that one parcel contained a box of tea, the other chemical substance in the form of fluorescent cleaning agent. The total weight of the drugs was about 1 kg.

In mid-February, the Krasnodar Customs officers initiated a criminal case upon the fact of illegal trafficking of Metinol drug in a big amount across the customs border of the Customs Union. The International mail was also sent from China.
