The development of Russian-Italian cooperation in the field of Customs

On November 26, 2013 in Trieste (Italy), the Russian FCS delegation took part in the top-level Russian-Italian intergovernmental consultations in expanded format under the chairmanship the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Italy Enrico Letta.

As part of the intergovernmental consultations, the meetings between the Head of the Russian FCS Andrey Beliyaninov and the Director of the Italian Customs and State Monopoly Agency Giuseppe Peleggi and the Commander of the Finance Guard of Italy Saverio Capolupo were held.

Following the results of the intergovernmental consultations in the presence of the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of Italy, the Head of the Russian FCS Andrey Beliyaninov signed two documents in the field of Customs Cooperation: the Protocol between the Russian Federal Customs Service and the Italian Customs and State Monopoly Agency on the organization of the exchange of information on goods transported between the Russian Federation and the Italian Republic and the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Customs Cooperation between the FCS of Russia (the Russian Federation) and the Financial Guard of the Italian Republic.

The implementation of the Protocol will help to reduce Customs Clearance time and increase the Customs Control efficiency which will contribute to the increase in the trade turnover between Russia and Italy. The Memorandum establishes the departments’ intention to cooperate in regard to canine units, in the field of exchange of operation information and implementation of special operations aimed at the discovery and suppression of smuggling channels.
