Development of Customs Cooperation between Russia and Iran

On 17 June, 2014 a meeting of the Acting Head of the FCS of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Malinin, and the Head of the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Masud Karbasian, was held.

In the course of the visit the parties signed a Memorandum between the FCS of Russia and the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the exchange of statistical data concerning mutual trade.

This document will lay the basis for the cooperation between the customs services of Russia and Iran in respect of foreign trade statistics and will make objective information readily available for the customs services of Russia and Iran for the comparison of the statistics of both countries and the monitoring of the Russian-Iranian economic cooperation.

In the course of the negotiations, the parties agreed to promote the Russian-Iranian customs cooperation with a view to boost the turnover of goods between Russia and Iran and to create favourable conditions for Iranian bona fide foreign trade operators.

For the resolution of the problematic issues faced by the Iranian business, the parties agreed to have a workshop with the business community.

On 18 June, 2014 the Iranian delegation visited the Astrakhan Customs of the Southern Customs Administration.
