For the first time Russia will chair at the session of the WCO Council

Chaired by Ruslan Davydov, the first deputy head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, Chairperson of the Council of the World Customs Organization, the 77th session of the WCO Policy Commission (July 3-5, 2017) was held at the WCO headquarters in Brussels (the Kingdom of Belgium).

The 129th/130th session of the Council of the World Customs Organization (July 6-8, 2017) under the chairmanship of Ruslan Davydov will be opened on July 6.

The session of the WCO Council is chaired by the Russian Federation for the first time.

Discussion of the matters of current interest for the world customs community is planned for this session. Among them are: simplification of the international trade, electronic commerce, counteraction of illegal cross-border movement of financial assets, classification decisions concerning Harmonized System, use of additional foreign languages of regional nature (Russian, Arabic, Spanish) in the WCO activity, interaction of the customs and tax administrations.

Background information

The World Customs Organization is an influential intergovernmental international organization representing customs administrations of 181 countries in order to enhance foreign trade and safety. The member countries of the WCO control 98 percent of the world trade. The superior bodies of the WCO are the Council, the Policy Commission and the Finance Committee. In 2016 the WCO Council for the first time was chaired by a representative of the Russian Federation.

The 76th session of the Policy Commission of the World Customs Organization was held during December 5-7, 2016 in Moscow. The opening speech was made by Igor Shuvalov, the first deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.
